The abilities that Math and Art are ideas such as patterns, shapes, colors, and symmetry. Piet Mondrian was using geometric shapes and colors in the paintings that he completed. These were inspired by the De Stijl movement and the principles. They were founded from math ideas and the use of balance and harmony. Math can also play a role in music, it can create rhythms and melodies. In the book "Music and Computers: A Theoretical and Historical Approach" discusses the ability an algorithm and math models can have on the musical composition of a song. Math provides ways to explain natural things that occur. Issac Newton used calculus to build his laws of motion and gravitational forces. Theo Jansen is the artist that I chose to dive into. He is able to create kinetic sculptures called Strandbeests. He gets influence for his sculptures from math, engineering and biology. Theo uses math ideas such as the Golden Ratio to put together the proportions for his sculptures. Giving him the best ability to get that aesthetically pleasing showing. The inspiration comes from animals such as crabs, in which he studied to construct his sculptures. His work highlights the relationship's between science, art, and math. I learned that scientists and artists will use math to achieve certain goals. These are patterns, symmetry, and harmonies. Math models can be used to create very complex shapes that are difficult to create through a manual process. In sciences, math can be used to predict the natural phenomena such as the movement of particles and the dynamics of a fluid. The juxtaposition of art, math, and sciences is a key part of the human creativity. Math can provide tools and principles that will apply to fields, especially art and science. In the art side of things, math can be used to create these vary aesthetically patterns and shapes. In science, math can be used to explain a model. The relationships between math, science and art is crucial and each one enriches another.
