Personally, I do not have any knowledge of medical technologies, but I can say how they may relate to the projects that I have observed. It has become more common throughout years with artists using them to explore the body and the relationship with technology. An artist who used this was Luxereau. "Anatomical Futurism" is a bunch of digital pictures that display humans through various technologies. This project brings the question of the impact technology can have on the body and what it stands for to be human in a world where technology is becoming so large. Virgil Wong has also used these medical technologies. "BodyMaps'' is an interactive digital map of the human body. This allows the user to explore throughout the body with extreme attention to detail. This tool can aid in helping those understand more about the human body and for the use in doctor practices. Another artist who has used medical technologies is Eduardo Kac. His project "GFP Bunny '...

For event number one I attended the Hammer Museum located here in Westwood, California to observe the Rita McBride: Particulates. This was a really great experience that I was able to not only enjoy by myself, but with a classmate. The museum was free to attend and I would highly recommend this to anyone who would be able to make it. Due to how accessible this museum and event was, it only made sense to take advantage of this opportunity. As we have began to learn about the relationships that are involved in art. The first one that comes to mind is from week two, the relationship between Math plus Art. The Particulates art is a rotated hyperbolic parabola that goes from one end to another end of the wall. The lasers are pointed at very specific areas in order to create these beautifully similar shapes in the green lasers. I may not know the math that went into being able to make this happen, but those lasers were not placed by eye. They were each strategically pointed at the wall ...

A topic that seizes interest in the industrialization and art world is the idea of mechanical reproduction and how it may affect society. Walter Benjamin talked about this idea, where he claims that mass producing art from technological ideas like film's and photo's, it has changed our relationship with art. A movie that first comes to mind for me is "The Matrix" directed by The Wachowskis. It takes place in the future where the human society is stuck in a simulation that is created by robots. Their human bodies are being used as the main energy source. The film shows themes of mechanization, robotics, and the dynamic of machines and humans. "The Matrix" is able to create questions about the originality of our reality and how the role of technology can shape our society. The simulation in the film is created by a use of technology, so that leads to: can we ever really tell what is real and fake? Benjamin argues that the mechanical reproduction has started t...

The abilities that Math and Art are ideas such as patterns, shapes, colors, and symmetry. Piet Mondrian was using geometric shapes and colors in the paintings that he completed. These were inspired by the De Stijl movement and the principles. They were founded from math ideas and the use of balance and harmony. Math can also play a role in music, it can create rhythms and melodies. In the book "Music and Computers: A Theoretical and Historical Approach" discusses the ability an algorithm and math models can have on the musical composition of a song. Math provides ways to explain natural things that occur. Issac Newton used calculus to build his laws of motion and gravitational forces. Theo Jansen is the artist that I chose to dive into. He is able to create kinetic sculptures called Strandbeests. He gets influence for his sculptures from math, engineering and biology. Theo uses math ideas such as the Golden Ratio to put together the proportions for his sculptures. Giving him...

Hi, my name is Jack Pedersen and this is my opinion on the ideas from this week. From reading the articles provided and watching the lectures that were available, all of the writers perspectives center around the the big idea of being able to bring together the science and humanities, as well as creating a third culture that would implement knowledge from different fields. Vesna argues for the essential need of a third culture that would include both of the artistic and the scientific thinking. Snow talks about the divide between the two cultures and the necessity for a  better communication and understanding between them. Brockman and Kelly were able to talk about this third concept of culture, creating emphasis on the need for collaboration and communication to address the global issues. There are various departments on campus that are able to focus on humanities and science. But, we see a very small interaction between the two. Generally, it is common for students to just focus ...
